Here’s a foolproof, budget-friendly recipe with a touch of originality for this smoked salmon cake with herbs and pink peppercorns.

It’s the perfect dish for a picnic or brunch—it can be enjoyed hot or cold and prepared ahead of time. For the salmon, I make this cake with smoked salmon sliced into strips.

As for the herbs, I personally like dill and chives, fresh or dried—you can vary the seasoning and let your creativity run wild!

For another variation with a unique flavor combination, replace the pink peppercorns with a small piece of ginger root, which you’ll grate into the batter. Bon appétit!

    7 ¾ oz of smoked salmon

    10 chives approximately
  • Image de dill

    2 ginger root optional (do not use if you choose pink peppercorns)
  • Image de pink peppercorns
    1 pink peppercorns optional (do not mix with ginger)
  • Image de salt
    1 salt
  • Image de pepper
    2 pepper
  • Image de egg
    3 eggs
  • Image de flour
    5.3 oz of flour
  • Image de baking powder
    1 baking powder
  • Image de sunflower oil
    3.4 fl oz of sunflower oil
  • Image de whole milk
    4.2 fl oz of whole milk
  • Image de grated Gruyère cheese
    3.5 oz of grated Gruyère cheese

Cake au Saumon Fumé : instructions

  • 1
    Preheat your oven to 180°C (thermostat 6).
  • 2
    In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper.
  • 3
    Gradually stir in the oil and the milk, which has been warmed beforehand. Mix well to avoid lumps. Add the Gruyère cheese. Stir.
  • 4
    Cut the salmon into strips, chop the chives, and add them to the batter. Mix well. To give this cake a unique twist, grate some fresh ginger into the mixture.

    To add a touch of originality and give this cake a little extra kick, you can choose to either grate a piece of fresh ginger into the mixture or use very lightly crushed pink peppercorns.

    Pour the mixture into an ungreased baking pan and bake for 45 minutes.
