Here’s my recipe for a light apple compote, with just the right amount of sugar and a delicious hint of vanilla and cinnamon.

This compote doesn’t compromise on flavor, and it’s a surefire hit with kids.

As you’ll see, it’s also very easy to make, requiring only a slow simmer in a saucepan.

Finally, from a health perspective, it’s particularly recommended during episodes of digestive discomfort, as it’s both easy to digest and nutritious.

Ingredients for Compote de pommes diététique

  • Image de apple
    28.2 oz of apples Choose cooking apple varieties: Belle de Boskoop, Belchard Chanteclerc, Canadian Grey Reinette, Jonalgold, Belle du Bois Cabusse, Cargalaou, Éclat, Winter Rambour, and Royal Rialette.
  • Image de mascobado
    2.5 oz of mascobado or rapadura, which is unrefined sugar
  • Image de vanilla
    1 vanilla or 1/2 tsp of vanilla caviar if you don't have vanilla beans.
  • Image de water
    3.4 fl oz of water
  • Image de cinnamon
    1 cinnamon Adjust to your liking.

Compote de pommes diététique : instructions

  • 1
    Peel the apples, cut them into small pieces, and place them in a saucepan.
  • 2
    Cut the vanilla bean in half and scrape out the seeds.
    Add the water, vanilla seeds, muscovado sugar, and cinnamon, and stir everything together.
  • 3
    Cook the apples over very low heat—so they retain their vitamins—for about 30 minutes.
    Stir occasionally to prevent them from sticking.
  • 4
    Once the apples are soft, turn off the heat and mash them with a fork. Enjoy warm or cold.
