Here’s my mom’s recipe for an easy yogurt cake. It’s a family favorite, and I think it was actually the first recipe I ever made as a kid!

It’s very simple to make because there’s no need to weigh the ingredients—everything is measured using yogurt containers as a unit of measurement.

This makes it the perfect cake to introduce little ones to baking, and then enjoy your creation together. To mix things up and add a touch of originality to this recipe, I’ve got a few ideas for flavoring the cake that you can mix and match.

Ingredients for Gâteau au yaourt

    2 plain yogurt Preferably a cream soup
  • Image de sugar
    1 pot of sugar
  • Image de flour
    2 pots of flour
  • Image de baking powder
    1/2 bag of baking powder
  • Image de butter
    1/2 pot of butter faded
  • Image de egg
    2 eggs
  • Image de salt
    1 pinch of salt
  • Image de butter
    1 hazelnut of butter for the pan
  • Optional additions to make this cake a little more fun

    1 tbsp of Rum or orange blossom water, or...

Gâteau au yaourt : instructions

  • 1
    Grease the cake pan. Preheat the oven to 180°C (gas mark 6).
  • 2
    Pour the yogurt into a mixing bowl. Add the sugar, then the flour, using the yogurt containers to measure the amount.
  • 3
    Melt the butter and add it to the mixture, along with the yeast.
    Mix well until smooth.
  • 4
    Add the egg yolks to the mixture and set the egg whites aside in a bowl.
  • 5
    Add the salt to the egg whites and beat them until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the egg whites into the mixture using a spatula, being careful not to deflate them.
  • 6
    Fill the pan with the cake batter.
  • 7
    Bake for 20 to 30 minutes (test with a knife).
