Here’s a simple and delicious recipe for creamy zucchini gratin, which I found in a traditional cookbook.

It has everything you need: good zucchini, eggs, cream, and cheese—not to mention nutmeg!

This creamy zucchini gratin is sure to be a hit for a family meal, as a vegetarian main course, or as a side dish with meat or fish.

Ingredients for Gratin de courgettes

  • Image de zucchini
    800 g of zucchini
  • Image de egg
    3 eggs
  • Image de grated Gruyère cheese
    100 g of grated Gruyère cheese or County
  • Image de crème fraîche
    150 g of crème fraîche
  • Image de nutmeg
    nutmeg
  • Image de salt and pepper
    salt and pepper

Gratin de courgettes : instructions

  • 1
    Wash the zucchini without peeling them, pat them dry, and cut them into 1-cm-thick rounds.
  • 2
    Add them to 3 liters of boiling salted water and cook for 15 to 18 minutes.
  • 3
    Pour them into a colander to drain. Using a slotted spoon, press them to remove any excess water.
  • 4
    Place the zucchini in a buttered baking dish. Mash them coarsely with a fork.
  • 5
    In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs as if making an omelet, then add the cream and grated Gruyère cheese. Season with salt and pepper, and sprinkle with grated nutmeg.

    Pour this mixture over the zucchini, stir, and bake in a hot oven (220°C) for 15 minutes.
