Here’s my super-simple recipe for lemon-verbena strawberry salad, just the way we make it at home.

It’s a super easy and quick recipe, and very light, since it doesn’t call for any added sugar—just the natural sweetness of the strawberries.

The secret: patience!

In fact, if you prepare this lemon-verbena strawberry salad a little in advance—say, at least an hour—you’ll really notice the difference. The strawberries will have time to release their flavors and natural sugars when they come into contact with the lemon juice, and you won’t need to add any extra sugar.

Another unique touch in this strawberry salad recipe is that I use lemon verbena to add even more flavor.

It’s a plant that’s very easy to grow in the garden or in a planter, and its fragrance pairs beautifully with that of strawberries without overpowering them.

Strawberry Salad with Lemon and Verbena : instructions

    Start by rinsing the strawberries. To do this, I place the strawberries in the basket of a salad spinner and pour water over them. Then I gently stir them and remove the basket to drain them as quickly as possible.

    Pat the strawberries dry with a paper towel.

    Hull the strawberries with a kitchen knife, then cut them in half in a mixing bowl.

    Squeeze the lemon right away and pour the juice into the bowl.

    Rinse and chop the verbena leaves, then gently toss them into the salad.
